Integral Crystalline Waterproofing

Crystalline technology mixed directly into the concrete, turning the slab itself into a self-sealing barrier — no membrane, no peeling, no future repairs.

Integral Crystalline Waterproofing (ICW) enhances the durability and longevity of concrete structures by making the concrete itself water-resistant from within.

Unlike traditional surface coatings or membranes, ICW transforms the concrete into a permanent barrier against water ingress. It suits both new construction and repair, and is essential for below-grade structures such as basements, as well as water containment systems including swimming pools, sewage tanks and water storage tanks. It is equally effective protecting rooftops, roof slabs, bathrooms and other wet areas from moisture damage and leaks.

Basement and below-grade waterproofing

Below-grade waterproofing deals with parts of the structure that are underground or in direct contact with soil. It is critical for three reasons:

  • It protects against hydrostatic pressure, which occurs when groundwater exerts force against the structure — especially in high water table areas such as Lagos, Port Harcourt and Abuja.
  • It prevents soil moisture and aggressive chemicals penetrating the concrete, which leads to deterioration over time.
  • Below-grade areas are inaccessible after construction, so initial installation quality is paramount. Failures often require costly excavation and extensive remediation.

Why it matters for the whole building

A properly waterproofed foundation is essential to the structural integrity of the entire building. It prevents water ingress that leads to rising damp and mould growth, which compromise indoor air quality and pose health risks. Effective below-grade waterproofing also contributes to energy efficiency by maintaining a dry, insulated basement environment.

While both above-grade and below-grade waterproofing matter, below-grade demands particular attention because of its long-term impact and the difficulty of post-construction repair. Investing in high-quality below-grade waterproofing is not merely protective — it is critical to the value, safety, longevity and durability of any structure.
